A classic is getting a modernized upgrade; Halo: Combat Evolved, the 2001 first-person shooter is a game seemingly everyone has played at some point of their life. The first installment of the franchise has received many praises and fans that have followed it for the past 24 years. With six mainline titles, the last being released in 2021, developer Halo Studios and publisher Xbox Game Studios are ready for their next endeavor in the series.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is the newest addition to Halo, this recreation of the original game has upgraded and stunning visuals with the same story that fans fell in love with.
The trailer for the game shows soldiers getting ready for a losing battle against the alien alliance The Covenant. One soldier is then released from a chamber, a familiar face that represents the franchise: Master Chief. He and the survivors from the ship floating in the middle of space then escape in a smaller craft. The group then finds a place to land, which is the setting that all fans know all too well.
From here, the trailer showcases some of the gameplay which players will come across in the new game. Players will be happy to know that among the multiple weapons shown in the trailer, they received an upgrade: not only are there new additions, but players will be able to pick up enemy weapons and use them against them, as they are able to in later games. Something that is also hard to miss is the drivable vehicles. Vehicles can now be hijacked and the Covenant Wraith tank will also be drivable, which is first in Halo: Combat Evolved.
Fans will luckily not have to wait long to get their hands on this remake, as it is set to release July 28th, 2026.
