Microsoft announced that Halo 2: Anniversary was getting a PC port and being the next addition to the PC edition of the Master Chief Collection, along with Halo Reach and Halo Combat Evolved. Halo 2: Anniversary is a 2014 remaster of the original Halo 2, which was released in 2004, as a part of the Master Chief Collection. Halo 2 was released for the first generation Xbox with Halo 2: Anniversary coming to the Xbox One.
The console edition of the Master Chief Collection features updated graphics, audio, improved cinematics, and animations. The PC version further enhanced the experience, by supporting 4K resolutions, ultrawide displays, and adjustable FOV. It is possible to toggle between the enhanced experience and the original graphics and audio.
Halo 2: Anniversary is listed on Steam for May 12th and is going for $40. The Master Chief Collection is listed for $40 and as with the case with Halo Reach, Halo 2: Anniversary will also be available as a DLC, most likely costing $10. To all the holders of Xbox Game Pass, Halo 2: Anniversary will be free to add to the Master Chief Collection. Currently, Xbox Game Pass offers a rotating library of over a hundred games on both Xbox and PC using the Xbox Beta app on Windows 10. Currently, all of Microsoft’s first-party games are included in the Game Pass such as the Gears of War series, Age of Empires, and The Outer Worlds and are not taken off as with other games. Xbox Game Pass costs a monthly fee of $10 or $15 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which includes a few more games and Xbox Live Gold.
With the pending release of Halo 2: Anniversary, Microsoft has started work on developing a PC port for Halo 3 and its spin-off Halo 3: ODST. Microsoft has released some early screenshots of their work in progress. Halo will also be getting new addition into the franchise with Halo Infinite when the Xbox Series X launches.
