Half Life Gets ‘Brutal Doom’ Styled Gore Mod

The original Half Life was and still remains one of the greatest games ever made, but with expectations for shooters high as ever, even the classics like it are starting to show their age. Thankfully, thanks to the modding community, Half Life is getting a new lease on life with the Brutal Half Life Mod.

This Brutal Mod, still in Beta mode was created by user Zoonyarts and is heavily inspired by a similar mod that came before, the Brutal Doom Mod by Sergeant_Mark_IV.

Essentially, it adds new blood and gore effects to the game, as well as new weapon effects, both visual and aural, to create a refreshing new experience of Half Life that depicts what would really happen if you fired a shotgun at point blank range at a living target.

Additionally, a few new tools are introduced to the game through this mod, such as the M249 SAW from its expansion pack, Opposing Force. This makes sense, after all, as it is the perfect tool to showcase the mod’s new mutilation effects. Gordon Freeman also gets a Duke Nukem style mighty foot that allows him to deliver flying kicks to both friend and foe alike.

If you prefer to just cut to the chase with the blood and guts without any of the fiddly puzzle and exploratory bits in the main campaign, Brutal Half Life also comes with an arena-style map that lets you murder your way through an assortment of enemies of your choosing.

The mod, as well as a full list of changes and additions, can be found on modDB.
