Battlefield Hardline Fans Experience Launch Day Connection Troubles

After months of waiting and slight setbacks, Battlefield Hardline has been officially released worldwide this past week for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. The long awaited launch went relatively smooth despite major delays in previously seen Battlefield games, such as Battlefield 4. Though not everything went off without a hitch for some Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players, who were reporting severe connection issues.

Shortly after it’s release on March 17, several Xbox One players found themselves being unable to access Hardline’s servers and reportedly DDoS attacks are to blame. DDoS attacks stem from extensive overload to targeted servers. Battlefield representatives responded to the attacks on their Twitter page.

We are aware of #BFHardline connectivity issues on Xbox One. We’ve got our best on it and hope to resolve soon. Thanks for your patience,” developer Visceral tweeted. “We’ve identified the connectivity issues on Xbox One are due to DDoS attack and working to resolve. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Xbox One users weren’t the only ones to suffer from server issues as PlayStation 4 players are reporting long connection times and “you have lost connection to server” messages. On Reddit, Visceral Games devs report being made aware of the issue and are currently working quickly to resolve the issue.

Most Battlefield fans are unfortunately used to launch day/week problems, but these issues are nothing compared to Battlefield 4’s launch back in late 2013. The first person shooter game was plagued with major technical bugs, glitches, and server crashes. Luckily this time around EA got it right and didn’t have as many widespread errors this time around.

Despite some minor delays, reviews have been mixed to generally positive with IGN stating that, “Battlefield Hardline impressively manages to please several different audiences at once.” Gameinformer also stated that, “Despite the problems of the single-player campaign, Hardline’s multiplayer offers fans a fresh and faster take on the series.”

It seems Visceral’s gamble to push back Hardline’s release date paid off and at least most of its fanbase was able to enjoy the game on launch day, which hasn’t always been the case in the Battlefield franchise. I have not had the chance to play the game myself but did enjoy the open beta when it came out last month. Based off the reviews it seems like Hardline is a game I’ll eventually add to my repertoire.
