Hades II has been the roguelike on everyone’s lips since its technical test in late April. It was quickly followed by the game’s early access which has also been wildly popular. Now there is something else to look forward to. For those interested in modding their game, worry not it seems rather simple this time. The Hades II code script, along with developer comments is accessible from the Steam Directory. It is quickly being called the most moddable game ever. A factor it actually shares with its predecessor the original Hades.
Streamers who have seen the code have even commented on it being written in Lua. Lua is a coding language that has a reputation for being easier to learn than its compatriots. As such the accessibility of the game in terms of modding is much higher than average. Lua modding has even been described as seamless. Modding can be used in loads of different ways, from introducing unique elements into a game, to altering an already existing function, to making something bespoke for the player. In one Reddit thread on modding in the original Hades, a post referenced increasing encounters with NPCs that can pop in during runs of the game. This is just one of the multitude of Hades modding opportunities available. My personal favorite Hades mod is the popular OlympusExtra which adds Hera, Hestia, and Apollo into the original game. Maybe we can thank that for their addition in the sequel.
Either way, players will get to enjoy playing with the code of Hades II as much as they did with the original. Supergiant Games even mentioned that this was by design, allowing players to have access to customization. What new mods will appear to add to the existing scape of Hades II, especially before the first major update, remains to be seen.
