Gwent: The Witcher Card Game’s New Arena Mode is Now Live

A new update to Gwent: The Witcher Card Game opens up the Arena, a draft-based game mode which allows players to face off against Master Mirror himself, Gaunter O’Dimm. The mode will enable players to build their gwent decks with none of the usual restrictions.

“Decks in Arena follow their own set of rules, separate from other game modes,” the Gwent announcement says. “When building your army, you can use cards from all playable factions, and as many copies of a single card as you wish. You are able to add a total of 26 cards to your deck (each chosen out of 4 random cards from Gwent‘s entire collection), and a Leader. Arena is all about thinking outside of the box and outsmarting your opponents. The game will end once you win nine games — or lose three. The more opponents you defeat, the greater the reward is.”

Each ticket for an Arena run costs 150 in-game ore or $2 actual currency to participate, and through March 7th, all players who log in with their Gwent accounts will receive three mirror shards (Arena tickets).

The Arena update brings with it ten new Gold cards, which you can check out on the Gwent site here; the character cards include Dandelion, Yennefer, Triss, Imlerith, Vernon Roche, Ihurraquax, Cerys, Morren, and, of course, Geralt of Rivia.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is available to play on the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
