As of now, we don’t know what’s next for PlayStation in the foreseeable future. However, one thing’s for certain, Guerrilla is all-in on Horizon. At the recent State of Play, the long-rumored Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was officially revealed and is set to launch for PS5 and PC at the end of the month on October 31. They also announced that LEGO Horizon Adventures is set to release for PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch on November 14. One might think that the next game from Guerilla would be Horizon 3, the next mainline game in the franchise. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case. The next game from Guerrilla is reportedly going to be the rumored Horizon online multiplayer game.
On the recent Spawn Wave podcast, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier talked about a variety of different topics, including what Guerrilla’s plans are for the future of Horizon.
“Horizon Online is their next product, not whatever the third single-player game looks like,” he said. “So, that one might be a ways off.”
“A lot of people are working on that,” Schreier added of the live service Horizon game.
“They’ve got this [Horizon Zero Dawn] remaster coming and the Lego game [Lego Horizon Adventures] coming. What happens if neither of those hit, and it turns out there isn’t a ton of interest in Horizon anymore? Are they still gonna be doing the online game? There are a lot of questions around their strategy and around that online game that I certainly have.”
The Horizon online multiplayer game isn’t the only thing that has been announced to be reportedly in development. There have also been reports of a MMO-RPG developed by NCSoft whose previous games include Guild Wars 2 and Lineage.
Guerrilla has already confirmed its plans to continue making “epic solo adventures” featuring series protagonist Aloy back in 2023.
We’ll have to wait and see how everything shakes out for the franchise.
