Grand Theft Auto V for PC Delayed a Third Time

Originally scheduled for release on Steam in September, then rescheduled for release in January and again in March, the highly anticipated PC release of Grand Theft Auto V (or GTA V) has been delayed yet again. Online Heists for Xbox and Playstation have also been pushed back.

The fictional recreation of Southern California, or the GTA V open world of Los Santos, will be available for PC gamers on April 14 – third time’s the charm, right? At least console gamers can look forward to Online Heists hitting the Los Santos streets on March 10.

Developer Rockstar Games offered an apology and posted an update to Steam explaining the latest in delays:

Our apologies to PC gamers worldwide who have been counting the days until the launch of the game, but a bit more time is needed…to make certain that both Heists and the GTA Online experience are ready to roll out on day one for PC.

So why another delay for GTA V‘s PC release? Rockstar Games wants to ensure that the game is “as polished as possible” before its PC debut, and that quality will hopefully be a result of the additional time spent optimizing for the highly graphical and technical PC-specific enhancements of this version. Rockstar already previously confirmed that the game will run in a 4K resolution and support community mods. PC gamers can look forward to seeing greater levels of detail, deep configuration options, ultra-high definition support, and the new Rockstar Editor video staging, recording and editing tool. And if that’s not worth the wait, Rockstar Games is giving $1,200,000 in free in-game money ($500,000 for Grand Theft Auto V and $700,000 for Grand Theft Auto Online) to those who pre-order the release, and an additional $300,000 for GTA Online to anyone who pre-orders before March 31.

Will the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V live up to the hype? In the meantime, check out some insanely detailed still captures of the 4K resolution below.
