Grand Theft Auto Spring Updates Bring Heists Online

Grand Theft Auto V publisher Rockstar Games announced yesterday that the popular heist missions from the games story mode will be making their way to GTA Online sometime this spring. In addition to the heist missions gamers can expect to build their own capture jobs with the new Capture Creator as well as the “High Life” update that brings slew of new apartment, weapon, vehicle and wardrobe options.

Despite having a less-than-stellar debut six months ago, Rockstar is hoping to regain the trust of GTA Online gamers by allowing you to team up with your friends, or random strangers, for lucrative heist opportunities. For example, one of the biggest heists in the story mode compels you to hire a driver, a gunman and a hacker to rip off a diamond story. If successful, the player pulls in at least $3.3 million – quite a hefty take away.  “We know many in the GTA Online community have been looking forward to this update,” the Rockstar Newswire announcement said. “Stay tuned for much more information to come.”

The Capture Creator, which will be launching next week, allows users to create their own originally designed and customized Capture Jobs to join the over 3.5 million player-created Deathmatches and Races that are already available. Capture Jobs typically require players to grab some sort of package, be it cash, drugs or otherwise, and deliver the captured package to a drop off. The new creator invites gamers to “strategically place pick-ups, define weaponry, set location, and tweak tons of other variables to make your own unique capture job for others to take on.”

With the “High Life” update, gamers can expect new “high-end apartment options,” rolling out multi-property ownership. Presently, GTA Online only lets players purchase one apartment or garage. The update also includes a new Bullpup Rifle, new wardrobe items, new jobs, and four new vehicles including a motorcycle and three new cars. Finally, Rockstar adds a new player statistic – Mental State – “which is designed to let you see just how passive or psychotically unhinged players in your session really are.”

Rockstar also mentioned upcoming holiday-themed updates and Story Mode DLC to look forward to later in the year, as well as the addition of “non-combat” races, updates to GTA$ (the currency in the game) payouts on certain jobs, reputation point fixes and more.

“Ever since the launch of GTA Online, we’ve been continuously monitoring how the community is playing as well as all player feedback…to see what your’re liking, disliking, and what should be addressed in upcoming GTA Online Title Updates,” Rockstar said. “There are many other ongoing improvements to expect as we continue to dedicate attention towards refining and ensuring the most fair and fun experience possible for everyone.
