With a franchise as popular as Grand Theft Auto, fans are always on edge to see what’s coming next, and it seems that players may finally have some insight into the future of the series. On June 27th, 2021, notorious game news leaker and industry insider Tom Henderson released a YouTube video that announced all of the rumors and information that he had heard about the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI game.
As a standalone statement, his words held some weight amongst fans. However, on July 4th and July 5th respectively, Jason Schreier from Bloomberg and Andy Robinson from Video Games Chronicle News both corroborated Henderson’s leak, saying that they too believed the information within his video to be true. With a new perspective on the upcoming sequel, there is a lot of new and exciting information to be unpacked.
Idk why everyone thinks that I said GTA VI was coming in 2023. Everything Tom Henderson has said about the game matches up with what I’ve heard

I can also throw my hat in the ring for this: these details match what I’ve heard about GTA6. https://t.co/aWjZXiGiKZ

One of the most important announcements Henderson made during his video is the anticipated release date of GTA VI. While previously Henderson and others had been led to believe that GTA VI would be released in 2022 or 2023, Henderson now claims that the games will be released much later than anticipated. GTA VI will most likely be released in three to four years, in either 2024 or 2025. Henderson explains that game developers at Rockstar Games want to postpone the game’s official announcement and release due to the fact that the game will only be available on next-gen consoles.
Henderson also claims that GTA VI will have a modern setting and that Vice City will be returning to the game in some capacity, and possibly even be set within the city or a version of it. Henderson also believes that a series of downloadable content packs will change the map throughout gameplay, with some changes possibly happening during game events.
As he continues, Henderson announces that the game will follow the same theme as its predecessors with multiple playable characters. Henderson also states that GTA VI will most likely have a female player character who is a tech expert.
While all of this news is exciting, Henderson, other news companies, and I will warn fans that none of the content within his video has been officially confirmed, and should be taken with a grain of salt.
This is all that Henderson had to say in his video, however, there is more news available about the future of the GTA franchise. Another exciting tidbit of information is the 20th anniversary of GTA III, coming up on October 22nd, during which Rockstar Games developers have announced that there will be new ‘surprises’ related to the franchise. While Rockstar Games has not followed up on this statement, they sure know how to get fans on the edge of their seats!
Although Henderson’s leaks are only educated guesses and rumors, one thing can be said for sure; fans are keeping their eyes and ears open for news on the popular Grand Theft Auto franchise.
