Due to last year’s huge leaks regarding the sixth installment of the Grand Theft Auto series, we know a lot more than we are supposed to. In Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings call, the publisher may have teased Grand Theft Auto VI’s release window.
Although the release date hasn’t been revealed, a lot of extra information surrounding the game was unveiled thanks to a giant leak that happened on the internet a year ago. This includes the setting, details on the new cast of characters and several other small pieces of what might be in store for players.
One piece of information that was leaked was the official release. Rockstar Games took to Twitter to announce the game was officially in the works. Their post read, “With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we’ve previously delivered. We’re pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the series is underway.”
Unfortunately, the official release date was not confirmed by Rockstar Games. However, we do know that the release date might come in 2024. This is because the company indicated that Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be released in 2024 due to Microsoft’s 2022 response to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority. In that document, Microsoft cites a piece by TechRadar as the source to that information.
In the latest earnings call, Take-Two CEO and chairman, Strauss Zelnick, said, “we [Take-Two] remain confident that we are positioning our business for a significant inflection point in fiscal 2025, which we believe will include new record levels of operating performance”. Take-Two’s Fiscal Year 25 runs between April 2024 – March 2025.
As for the city in which the game takes place, we do know it will take place in Florida. More specifically, the setting will be the company’s take on Miami: Vice City. The map has also been confirmed to be giant. How do we know that Grand Theft Auto will take place in Miami: Vice City? A screenshot showed off some scenery that was very reminiscent of Florida imagery. Additionally, in that screenshot, you can see the city’s name on a train.
Not only did we see the setting of the game leaked, but we also got to learn about the new cast of characters. Although we don’t know the names of the characters yet we do know that there will be one white guy and a Latina woman. The Latina woman has been noted to be a mass-murdering girl with a violent history.
Even though the game has not yet received a sure release date, we, fortunately, received a lot of information and details surrounding the pending release of the game.
