Sony and developer Polyphony Digital have announced that all online services for Gran Turismo Sport will end on January 31. 2024. In addition, the developer also revealed that all in-game additional content will no longer be able to be purchased on December 1, 2023. This includes all of the additional playable vehicles, the Scapes Content Pack, and the Lewis Hamilton Time Trial Challenge. Those who already own all of the aforementioned content will still be able to access them within the game, and those who purchase them before December 1 will be able to do the same.
The shutdown of the online services means that players will no longer be able to access the online capabilities of Community, Open Lobby, and Sport Mode, within Gran Turismo Sport. This also includes the Mileage Store and certain trophies that require players to be online in order to earn them. The developer also added that players will not be able to use “online features/items such as custom liveries.” The developer adds that all offline portions of the title can still be played, including the additional content that we mentioned earlier.
Gran Turismo Sport launched back in October 2017 exclusively for the PlayStation 4. Despite not having a number in the title, Polyphony considered it a mainline entry in the Gran Turismo franchise. The game was generally well received and was nominated for Best Sports/Racing Game at The Game Awards 2017, losing to Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport 7. While it’s unfortunate that the online services are coming to an end, it’s also not that surprising as both Sony and Polyphony are currently focusing on bringing out more content for the current iteration in the series, Gran Turismo 7.
