On January 13, Google released the first and last Google Stadia title coming to the platform before the service shuts down later this week. In the game’s official description, Google revealed that Worm Game was the game they used to test many of the game’s features.
In Worm Game, players control a worm as they try to eat the fruit on screen. As the worm eats fruit, it becomes bigger. The game is very similar to the retro game Snake, but has extra modes and different levels.
“Play the game that came to Stadia before Stadia came to the world. “Worm Game” is a humble title we used to test many of Stadia’s features, starting well before our 2019 public launch, right through 2022,” Google said. “It won’t win Game of the Year, but the Stadia team spent a LOT of time playing it, and we thought we’d share it with you. Thanks for playing, and for everything.”
Google announced that it would be sunsetting Stadia back in September, citing a lack of traction for the service’s shutdown. “And while Stadia’s approach to streaming games for consumers was built on a strong technology foundation, it hasn’t gained the traction with users that we expected so we’ve made the difficult decision to begin winding down our Stadia streaming service,” Stadia Vice President and General Manager Phil Harrison said in an official statement.
Stadia refunds have been automatically processed since November 9, 2022. This includes all games, add-on content, and subscription fees other than Stadia Pro made through the Stadia store. By Wednesday, January 18, the majority of refunds should be processed.
People with an active Stadia Pro subscription since September 29 can access their library up until the service’s shutdown later this week on the 18.
