Good News: Borderlands 3 Confirmed, Already Has New Art Director And Writer

During a panel discussion at major video game event and convention, PAX East in Boston, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford all but officially announced a third Borderlands game after the completion of Battleborn.

It’s no secret, obviously there’s going to be another Borderlands. We don’t even know if we’re going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know…

To the joy of many a fan, he carried on later in the week and confirmed Borderlands 3. Announced via his twitter account, Pitchford revealed the game is gaining an official art director.

Particularly eagle eyed fans will recall Scott Kretser as previous art director for Gearbox’s other fps (first person shooter) game, Battleborn. Meanwhile, voice of fan favorite mechanic Scooter, Mikey Neumann, will be serving as the game’s writer. Neumann stated during the PAX East panel that he had previously been tossing around ideas, mainly concerning a possible son of Scooter, named Scooper:

I did this whole Scooter thing, then I pitch-shifted it up like seven semitones so it sounds like a chipmunk and it was the funniest thing I’d ever heard.

Nothing, however, is set in stone as of yet. Fans can in the meantime look forward to several Borderlands Easter Eggs and themed DLC in Battleborn, and a possible R-Rated film adaption in the works with Lion’s Gate (the same studio that spearheaded the ragingly famous Hunger Games adapted series), who also have hired a writer on board. The studio hired Aaron Berg, known for his action films such as GI Joe 3.

When asked about the DLC and Easter Eggs woven into Battleborn, Pitchford has this to day:

There’s already a lot of Borderlands easter eggs in Battleborn. But they’re all from previous Borderlands games. So what if we put easter eggs for future stuff in the DLC?

More updates on the newest Borderlands project from Gearbox soon!
