Golem, the mysterious VR game from Highwire Games, finally has a release date, actually two different ones, nearly four years after its initial reveal. The game is set to hit retail store shelves first on November 8 in all European territories. The studio is aiming to get a retail release in North America as close to that release date as well. However, just four days later, on November 12, the game will receive a worldwide digital release.
First revealed all the way back at PlayStation Experience 2015, Golem follows the story of Twine, a child who was seriously injured in an accident and is now bedridden. However, while Twine cannot leave bed, they have a mysterious ability that allows them to create and control Golems to explore the world. Controlling the Golems allows for players to explore an abandoned city, engage in combat, and unravel the mystery that ties this city to Twine’s family.
Golem is also the first game from Highwire Games after the studio was formed by former Bungie employees Marty O’Donnell and Jaime Griesemer. O’Donnell, whose won multiple awards for his work on the Halo and Destiny soundtracks, will composing the music for Golem. The physical version of the game will also include the Kickstarter backed musical prequel from O’Donnell called “Echoes of the First Dream“. Griesemer also expressed excitement for the release of the game stating:
It’s so gratifying to see our original vision for Golem come together into a full experience. We’ve really had to push ourselves and the technology, but I think the game is beautiful and I can’t wait for everyone to be able to play it. And we’re pretty old school, so it won’t feel ‘finished’ for us until we see it on store shelves.
Rob Edwards, the Managing Director of the game’s publisher Perp Games, also commented on the upcoming release of the game by stating, “Golem has been a long-time coming but the wait is almost over. It is our honour to be working with such an amazing team of world-class talent. We can’t wait to explore Golem’s secrets.”
Eager fans only have wait a little over a month for one of PSVR’s most anticipated titles. You can check out the original announcement trailer for Golem below:
