One of 2022’s most successful titles is without a doubt Santa Monica’s God of War Ragnarok. The PlayStation 5 title is already the fastest-selling first party title in Sony’s entire history, and it’s only been available for a couple of weeks. Despite this insane amount of success, the Director of the title, Eric Williams, is already looking forward to another challenge, if it even happens. Speaking on the Kinda Funny Games Spoilercast, Williams mentioned that he would love to work on a brand new Castlevania title.

When asked what he wants to do next, Williams stated that “”I don’t know what I’m doing next, but if somebody gives me that Castlevania license, we’d love to make that.” While this is more than likely some tongue in cheek humor to an extent, the passion Williams displays for the franchise is well noted. Williams, slightly embarrassed by this statement, says that he will “get in so much trouble” for his comments. However, Williams then appears to double down on his words, saying that he wants to use the Spoilercast as a platform to get his word out.
Considering that Williams works for Santa Monica Studios, a first party developer for the PlayStation brand under Sony, and Castlevania is wholly owned and licensed by Konami, the likelihood of him achieving this dream is unfortunately slim to none at this time. Konami themselves have only just recently come out of their self-imposed, and mostly, non-gaming stint by bringing back their beloved Silent Hill franchise with the announcement of a new entry. However, the video game industry is an ever changing and always evolving situation, and we’ve definitely seen stranger things happen over the years. Should Williams find himself with a chance to work on a brand new Castlevania IP in the foreseeable future, it would definitely be one that we’d be excited to get out hands on.
