The massive leak of Grand Theft Auto 6 footage earlier this year caused quite a storm amongst the video game community. The GTA 6 leaks were a massive blow to Rockstar Games, and removing the footage from the internet proved to be a near-fruitless process. However, for unknown reasons, game developer Coffee Stain decided it was a good idea to incorporate some of the leaked footage in a Goat Simulator 3 ad on Twitter.
According to Eurogamer, the ad was posted on Monday and showcased an interview with an NPC named Shaun about his rag-doll role in Goat Simulator 3. Following a montage of the NPC’s training, the ad showed the NPC being spliced into the leaked GTA 6 footage. It was a short ad, but that small amount of footage was enough for it to rile up Take-Two Interactive and get struck by a DMCA.
Many in the video game community were baffled by the ad, with some finding it hilarious while others severely criticizing it. The main critique passed around was that Coffee Stain was deliberately using the leaked footage of GTA 6 to provoke the larger company, only being emboldened by Coffee Stain’s tweets following the ad’s release. Regardless, Coffee Stain has remained silent on its reasoning behind the ad. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if this was a deliberate stunt for more attention leading up to Goat Simulator 3’s release.
