In its first three days since release, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima has passed Horizon: Zero Dawn to become PlayStation 4’s fastest-selling first-party original IP debut with more than 2.4 million units sold. Sony’s last big exclusive for the generation adds yet another game that generated record sales. It’s also not the only exclusive that has made records recently, The Last of Us Part II also broke another one.
For comparison, Horizon: Zero Dawn sold more than 2.6 million units in the game’s first two weeks on sale. Ghost of Tsushima sold more than 2.4 million in the first three days. Ghost isn’t the only exclusive this year than sold very well just after release.
Last month, The Last of Us Part II became PlayStation 4’s fastest-selling exclusive with more than 4 million sold after three days since the game’s release. Alongside news of Ghost of Tsushima’s accomplishment, new data revealed that The Last of Us Part II sold 2.8 million digital copies in the month of June, breaking digital sales records for PlayStation.
Earlier in the year, Final Fantasy VII Remake shipped and sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide in 3 days. The game also set launch sales records for the franchise and is one of the best selling games this year.
Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, and Final Fantasy VII Remake join Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and more in the PlayStation 4 library that broke records this generation. God of War sold 3.1 million in its first 3 days. Then in the next year, Marvel’s Spider-Man broke its record selling 3.3 million copies in its first 3 days. Now, The Last of Us Part II holds that record.
With the last major exclusives out, Sony can put all of its focus and energy on the PlayStation 5 which is set to launch later this year.
