Ghost Of Tsushima Becomes PlayStation 4’s Fastest-Selling Original Game

Ghost of Tsushima has done very well since its release in July. During its first three days, the game sold over 2.4 million copies and it became the fastest-selling new IP for PlayStation 4. Now, Herman Hulst, Head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios has revealed that the game has sold more than five million copies since July and is PS4’s fastest-selling first-party original game. Sucker Punch has remained busy with the game despite it being a single-player title. After its release, they announced Legends, a new, free online cooperative mode that was released last month which may have helped add to the number of copies sold.

The new numbers for Ghost of Tsushima just add to the already impressive catalog of games that were released for PlayStation 4 that set sales records. Before Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn held the title as fastest-selling new IP with 2.6 million copies sold in the game’s first two weeks when it was released in 2017. God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man also broke records when they were released in 2018. Also breaking records this year was Final Fantasy VII Remake and The Last of Us Part II. Remake shipped and sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide in three days and set launch sales records for the Final Fantasy franchise. The Last of Us Part II became PlayStation 4’s fastest-selling exclusive with more than 4 million copies sold in the game’s first three days of release. The game also broke digital sales records for PlayStation selling 2.8 million digital copies in the month of June.

With all of the critical and commercial success, it looks like Sucker Punch has more ideas in mind for the franchise. While nothing official has been announced, a job post listing for the developer strongly hints that their next game is a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.
