Get a Free Gears of War 4 With the Purchase of a Nvidia GTX 1070 or 1080

Microsoft is currently pushing its Xbox Play Anywhere initiative since it went live last week on September 13th. So to attract PC gamers and Xbox console gamers alike, Microsoft is teaming up with Nvidia to give away a free copy of Gears of War 4 for anyone who purchases either a GTX 1070 or a GTX 1080. According to The Verge, the deal is valid to anyone purchasing the graphics card as a single unit, as part of a system, or within a laptop.

The Xbox Play Anywhere initiative was announced during Microsoft’s E3 press conference this past June, where they stated that gamers will be able to get a game delivered to both the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC with a single purchase. Any of your game progress is saved on to a single file where your achievements are all tracked to a single file, accessible in both PC and Xbox One. All DLCs you purchase will be playable on both systems as well. However, you will need to have installed the Windows 10 Aniversary update and you will also need to have the summer update on your Xbox One console. So why would Microsoft choose to team up with Nvidia to give away a free copy of Gear of War 4?

According to PC World, Gears of War 4 marks the first time in the entire franchise that a Gears of War game will be released simultaneously for both Xbox and PC. Side-by-side cooperative mode will be cross-playable, which means gamers on an Xbox One and on a PC will be able to play together. This also includes Horde mode and the full campaign. Full offline LAN play is also supported for both consoles and PCs. Windows 10 will support split-screen multiplayers. Even though you can play Gears of War 4 with the minimum required specs – the lowly GTX 750 Ti – you’ll need the GTX 1070 or the 1080 for Gear’s “ideal” specs. For those wanting to play Gears of War 4 with maxed-out settings on 4k resolution, a GTX 1080 is required.

Microsoft’s pairing with Nvidia might seem a bit strange since their Xbox One uses AMD chips. But with their announcement of the more powerful Xbox console coming out next year – the “Project Scorpio” – many believe Microsoft is going to have Nvidia graphics chips in the future.

Gear of Wars 4
is set to be released on October 11th.
