MiHoYo’s free-to-play, Breath of the Wild inspired open-world game Genshin Impact burst onto the scene last year. The gaming community was set ablaze upon its release for its beautiful anime-inspired art style as well as its addicting “gatcha” style gameplay. Now, after a live stream showcase and a new trailer, Genshin Impact is ready to unleash its biggest update yet onto the community.
The 2.0 update, titled “The Immovable God and the Eternal Euthymia”, features the new long-awaited Inazuma region. Inazuma, ruled by the Electro Archon, is located across the sea from the former main playable regions Mondstadt and Liyue. This is huge news for fans of Genshin Impact, as the locations found within Inazuma are inspired by completely different cultures, with new creatures and story elements waiting to be found. Fans will also be happy to hear that they won’t have to wait long for this update, as it’s releasing later this month on July 21st.
In the description for the trailer on this new update, MiHoYo gives us some insight as to what we can expect from this story. This description reads, “A foreign thunderstorm tears the sky apart, splitting eternity. Flashes of lightning cut through the darkness, as a god’s will manifests. Overcome endless thunderstorms, set foot on the island of cherry blossoms, and witness the Eternity pursued by Her Excellency, the Almighty Narukami Ogosho.”
While Mondstadt had a more open fantasy world theme around it and Liyue was heavily inspired by Chinese culture and tradition, Inazuma will be focused heavily on Japanese culture. From the building architecture, to the repeated portrayal of cherry blossoms throughout the land, as well as samurai and shogun archetypes, it seems MiHoYo is going all out with this theme. Inazuma’s soundtrack, meanwhile, was recorded in collaboration with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, to add to that authentic flare. On top of all this, new playable characters will be added as well, such as Kamisato Ayaka as a five-star character for the first time.
On top of all this, Genshin Impact will be getting a highly requested feature in the form of cross-save. This will allow players to play the game across multiple platforms without missing a beat. As the game is available on PS4 & PS5, PC, and mobile (along with a Nintendo Switch version eventually), this feature allows for the utmost flexibility in how players choose how they want to play without sacrificing any progress. The update will also bring some nifty features for owners of the PlayStation 5, such as DualSense haptic feedback support, and all platform versions benefitting from improved character shading, feature optimization, and the aforementioned cross-save functionality. For gamers with a green thumb, gardening will also be coming to the game as well in the Serenitea Pot.
There is much to be excited about for this latest update. To put it into perspective as to how big this is, MiHoYo went from version 1.6 and jumped right to 2.0. With new events, new characters, and a brand new land to explore, now is a great time for fans of Genshin Impact. With immersive expansions such as this, it is no surprise that Genshin Impact was one of the highest-grossing mobile games in Q1 of 2021. With “The Immovable God and the Eternal Euthymia”, MiHoYo seems to make it be known that Genshin Impact is here to stay.
