HoYoverse has revealed the next chapter for Genshin Impact with Version Luna I, “Song of the Welkin Moon: Segue,” which launches on September 10. The update marks the start of the yearlong “Song of the Welkin Moon” series and introduces Nod-Krai, a new major region in Teyvat, where players will encounter fresh characters, new powers, and a story that draws them deeper into the mysteries of the moon, according to a press release.

Following the conclusion of the Natlan storyline, players will be able to head north to explore Nod-Krai’s three island territories. The new Archon Quests introduce Lauma of the Frostmoon Scions, who joins forces with the Traveler against the Fatui. Along the way, players will resist the “Wild Hunt” alongside Flins and meet new allies in Nasha Town. The Fatui Harbinger Sandrone, also known as Marionette, arrives as part of the Fatui’s plan to seize the moon’s power, while Columbina, formerly “The Damselette,” has returned to her birthplace in Nod-Krai where she is honored as the Moon Maiden. To begin exploring the new region, players must complete Mondstadt’s main story and reach Adventure Rank 28, or progress into the new Archon Quests after Liyue.

Nod-Krai brings with it a new elemental force, Kuuvahki, that permeates the land and its inhabitants. Players can tap into Kuuvahki through plants, mechanisms, and terrain to aid exploration and even take the form of Kuuhenki, an elemental lifeform that allows swift traversal through mist and Moonlanes. In combat, Kuuvahki presents both obstacles and advantages, enabling new Lunar Reactions that can change the flow of battle.

Three new characters will join the roster in Version Luna I. Lauma, a five-star Catalyst user and Moonchanter, introduces the Lunar-Bloom reaction with her Dendro abilities, generating Verdant Dew to amplify Bloom-related damage and even transforming into a half-human, half-deer form for enhanced mobility. Flins, a five-star Polearm wielder, channels Electro with Lunar-Charged strikes, able to deliver powerful single blows or rapid spear attacks, while his role as a Lightkeeper lets him sense the presence of the Wild Hunt during exploration. Aino, a four-star Hydro Claymore user, combines her mechanical creativity with combat utility, summoning inventions like her duck-shaped device “Knuckle Duckle.” She can be recruited for free by progressing through the new Archon Quests.

Players will also be able to deepen their bond with these characters through “Meeting Points,” a new feature that lets them take part in moments from their companions’ lives, such as reliving Frostmoon Scion legends with Lauma, working in Aino’s Clink-Clank Krumkake Craftshop, or discovering the history of the Lightkeepers with Flins. The first half of the version’s Event Wishes will feature Lauma alongside a rerun of Nahida, while the second half will add Flins, Aino, and a rerun of Yelan.

The update comes with several quality-of-life improvements. Adventure EXP can now be earned through more sources, materials will be added to Battle Pass rewards, Artifacts will display locked affixes in advance, and additional team setup slots will expand party presets. The most significant change is the introduction of Masterless Stella Fortuna, which allows players to use duplicate five-star Stella Fortuna to push characters past the current cap to Level 100. To celebrate both the update and the game’s fifth anniversary, HoYoverse is also rewarding players with a free five-star character of their choice from the Standard Wish pool, 10 Intertwined Fates through a login event, 1,600 Primogems via in-game mail, and two themed gadgets from Nod-Krai.

Looking ahead, Genshin Impact also unveiled details about Miliastra Wonderland, a new UGC gameplay system that lets players design and play custom stages using an editor tool called the Miliastra Sandbox. This feature will become available in Version Luna II, giving creators the ability to build experiences ranging from mini-games and simulations to survival challenges.

Genshin Impact Version Luna I will be available on September 10 across PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Android, and iOS, with cross-progression and Co-Op supported. The game remains rated T for Teen by the ESRB on console, PC, and Google Play, and 12+ on iOS.
