Genshin Impact Debuts Horizon Zero Dawn’s Aloy

In a surprising twist, Guerilla Games and miHoYo have partnered to bring Horizon Zero Dawn‘s iconic character Aloy to Genshin Impact. The character was released just last week on September 1st, as part of the 2.1 update. Due to her popularity, the character has become one of many faces of Sony’s brand, appearing in several different promotional materials. Prior to her Genshin debut, the character had been released as a skin in Fortnite.

Aloy’s Genshin debut marks the transformation of the character to now becoming a collectible type of playable character. She will join the roster of 42 other playable characters in the RPG game. While both Horizon Zero Dawn and Genshin Impact are RPGs set in worlds built by gods, the two games couldn’t be more different. This makes the easy implementation of Aloy all the more impressive. Although coming from a completely different backdrop, Aloy meshes well with the game, becoming a new fan favorite amongst players.

Although the character picks up a variety of weapons throughout Horizon Zero Dawn– from bombs to Netcasters- her most reliable weapon in the game is a bow. This, paired with the character’s mastery of ranged weapons, makes it so that it is perfect sense for her Genshin Impact counterpart to be a bow character. Aloy also carries over elemental damage into the game. In combat, Aloy supplies Cryo damage to enemy teams in her own unique style. In order to do so, she makes use of technology, throwing Power Cells and Freeze Bombs at her enemies in between piercing them with arrows. Once she has applied enough damage to an enemy, Aloy gets a hefty damage boost to finish them off.

According to Aloy’s Genshin description, she is the same being as the one in Horizon Zero Dawn. She apparently has traveled to the world of Teyvat in search of new challenges. The character would arrive in the world around the same time that the region of Inazuma has been taken over by the Raiden Shogun. Aloy will be a free five-star character for any player who is level 20 or above- but only on PlayStation.

Victoria Taurizano: Victoria’s fascination with games dates as far back to the early days of Newgrounds, where she became enthralled with the patchwork flash games that the site boasted. From there, she continued onward, playing a multitude of different games, diversifying her taste with every new day. Whether it was talking to Alduin at Skyrim’s peak, or romancing Sebastian in Stardew Valley, she has always been fixated on the mechanics of games, as well as the diversified culture that backgrounds them. Even to this day she continues trying new genres: from RPGs, to Roguelites, to even more quaint experiences found in Cozy games.
