Following a prominent feature in the Xbox Showcase earlier this year, Gears of War: E-Day has revealed new graphical and gameplay elements that promise to make the game the most advanced in the series. Xbox recently put out a new trailer and post on the Gears of War official website that serve to introduce players to the ways in which the upcoming game will be playable in multiplayer.
In accordance with previous Gears of War games, players will be able to play both cooperatively and versus one another in multiplayer. The first mode available is an iteration on the classic wave survival modes of previous games, titled Horde Siege. In it, twelve players will team up to fight against Locust as they are split into three teams each with their own objective. Players will also have access to unique classes in Horde Siege with the Breacher, Assault, and Marksman for close, mid, and long-range combat respectively, along with Medics for healing support. The post claims that this mode will encourage more diverse gameplay while also introducing an epic scale to the PvE conflict through the larger maps. As players complete more missions as a given class, they will also gain more XP and newer weapons for future games.
The new PvP mode applies the new movement abilities of Gears of War: E-Day to a competitive and tense environment. The new modes offered include the classic Team Deathmatch with adaptive respawning to keep the fight going, Conquest for King of the Hill-style gameplay, Demolition, which requires escorting and defending a bomb in the enemy’s territory, and the new mode, Crucible. In the new mode, players will need to hold the Power Core inside a specific zone to accumulate points. The new game will also feature a long list of new competitive maps and customization options.
The post ends by confirming that more work will be done to improve all aspects of Gears of War: E-Day following its launch. Players will have the chance to experience the new multiplayer modes for themselves when the game releases on Xbox on October 6th, 2026.
