Developer The Coalition and publisher Xbox Game Studios have revealed the official story trailer for their upcoming third-person shooter prequel, Gears of War: E-Day. Showcased during Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live, the studio reiterated that the title is set to launch on October 6, 2026, for PC and Xbox Series X|S. To mark the occasion, the team debuted a new story trailer highlighting the grim, war-torn atmosphere and the chaotic brutality of the initial Locust invasion.
The trailer sets a terrifying tone right out of the gate with violent imagery and a chilling directive to “Scorch the city. Seize the surface.” The game transports players to the planet Sera, exactly fourteen years before the events of the original 2006 Gears of War. The monstrous Locust Horde abruptly erupts from beneath the earth’s surface in a horrific surprise attack, leaving humanity entirely caught off guard. As a commanding officer in the trailer notes while officially designating Bravo Squad, “No one knows what these things are or where they’re coming from.”
Taking place primarily in the industrial city of Kalona, players step into the boots of a young, inexperienced Marcus Fenix. The trailer emphasizes the sheer scale of the threat, stating, “This is more than an invasion. It’s a war.” To navigate the hostile urban environment and survive the slaughter of Emergence Day, Fenix teams up with his close friend Dominic Santiago. Together, they embrace their core identity to protect Kalona, powerfully declaring, “We’re Gears. We fight.”
Gears of War: E-Day will release on October 6, 2026, for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
