Gamescom 2026 has officially come and gone, and with it comes first looks and new trailers for the future of gaming. One of those new trailers we got is the Metro 2039 Renegade Gameplay trailer, which not only shows off the new and improved world of post-apocalyptic Moscow but also offers a look at new enemies, weapons, and our voiced protagonist, the Stranger. Metro 2039 is the newest game in the Metro franchise, inspired by the novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky, and it looks to follow the second book in the series, Metro 2034Metro 2039 is set to release in February 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and you can sign up for the collector’s edition of the game now.

In the Metro 2039 Renegade Gameplay Trailer, we got a good look at the hauntingly beautiful, handcrafted world of post-apocalyptic Moscow, created using the 4A Engine. The trailer also showcased combat and stealth all mixed in, and those fans of the franchise will see many similarities to past Metro games like Exodus. We also get a good look at a crafting system similar to Metro Exodus, which appears to be upgraded, along with new weapons to customize and new gadgets to use to explore the world. And speaking of the world, we get a good look at monsters that populate not only the metros but the surface, along with human enemies, specifically the Novoreich, which are being led by the legendary Spartan Hunter, whom many will remember from the first game as he set Artyom, the original protagonist, on his journey. The protagonist currently goes by Stranger and is voiced, which is a first for the series, as he explores both the metros and the surface in search of someone it’s unknown who, but possibly Hunter, as the game seems to take heavy inspiration from the second book in the Metro series, Metro 2034, which followed Hunter and his madness after his fight with the Dark Ones. Speaking of Dark Ones, we get a good look at them in the new trailer, and they are as terrifying as ever. Glad to see them back.

After the announcement, 4A Games and Deep Silver put out a press release in which they talked about the game ” This trailer gives players just a taste of the hauntingly beautiful hand-crafted environments waiting to be explored, from the realities of daily life in Sevastopolskaya station to the deadly irradiated surface of Moscow, and thrilling FPS stealth action gameplay made possible by harnessing the proprietary power of the 4A Engine.”

They also talk about the collector’s edition, which is a first for the franchise. “4A Games also revealed the first details of the METRO 2039 Collector’s Edition, available to pre-order later this year. For the first time in METRO franchise history, the Collector’s Edition will allow players to become a tangible part of the world with an authentic, beautifully crafted replica of the mysterious Stranger’s battle-scared Spartan helmet. Fans can register their interest in the METRO 2039 Collector’s Edition now to be among the first to know when and where you can secure your very own piece of METRO history.”

Metro 2039 looks to be 4A Games’ biggest game not only for the franchise but also for the studio, as they continue to push the bar while developing the game in Ukraine. Which is nothing short of amazing, as Ukraine is still at war, so props to the developers for sticking with it and showcasing not only their dedication to the craft but also their love for the medium. Metro 2039 is officially set to launch in February 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC via Steam and The Epic Games Store. And you can sign up to get the collector’s edition of the game, a first in the franchise, now.
