Today at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, the highly anticipated Mega Man: Dual Override revealed their first gameplay trailer. In this latest installment in the series, there are two distinct characters to select from: Mega Man and Proto Man. Both will have unique combat abilities that will require different strategies for players to learn.
The main premise of the game is that robots at the Robot Exhibition have gone berserk while Dr. Light is away from the lab. It is up to both Mega Man and Proto Man to save the city and find out what caused the incident. However, their path is fraught with enemies.
The gameplay trailer was posted on the official Mega Man Youtube channel and it highlights the classic side-scrolling maps players will navigate through. Twinkle Girl, one of the bosses shown in the trailer, makes her first debut as a new Robot Master. Her attacks are firework-themed and defeating her with unlock powerful special weapons for players to utilize throughout their adventure.
There are eight Robot Masters in total with some classic Robot Masters potentially returning in this newest installment. Astro Man from Mega Man 8 can be seen attacking Mega Man just before Twinkle Girl is shown, hinting at his presence within the game.
One of the mechanics shown in the trailer is the Custom Chip system with a new personalization style. This means that players can tailor their chosen character to best fit their playstyle or experiment with various ability combinations. There are various power-ups to select from including a protective shield bubble, hover ability, a rapid-fire enhancement, and many more for players to uncover.
Another mechanic featured is the Override system that allows players to temporarily unleash their character’s power, surpassing their normal limits. However, this Power-Up comes at a cost. Once it runs out, players will experience a momentary loss in performance, meaning that players must learn when exactly to use the ability in a fight.
