In an announcement on Game Informer, Editor-In-Chief Matt Miller went on to describe the disappointment of how the video game editorial outlet closed its doors in August 2024 when, the parent company, Gamestop decided to shut it down due to financial constraints stemming from their decrease in physical game sales and rise in digital game purchases.
An outcry was felt in response from players, who’d grown attached to the magazine and vocalized this to Miller and his team over the 30 year span of its continuity. The magazine has, according to Miller, been “given a new lease on life” and the entire team working during its closure has since been called back for its return; Including prior writers, editors, and designers. In the release shared on Gamer Informer, Miller goes on to say “With the brand and team reunited, we can move forward with confidence that we’re maintaining that unbroken identity of who we are and what we represent.”
Gunzilla Games has secured the rights to Game Informer, while maintaining that the magazine remains an independent editorial outlet. Miller states that Gunzilla Games’ push is for Game Informer to make decisions independently about how and what they cover without Gunzilla’s Game’s oversight.
Game Informer aim’s to bring new membership options upon their return, Miller describes. Including new membership and subscription benefits, expanded videos, streaming, featured coverage, whilst broadening their range of expertise and partnerships. The finalization to create a new membership is available as well as unlocking various past Game Informer magazines.
Game Informer have been industry leaders in gaming publications positioning themselves along one of the most well known game retailers in the country. They’ve developed a positive reputation and it is likely that players will be pleased to discover that the editorial outlet is back with a newfound resolve.
