G2A No Longer a Sponsor for League of Legends

G2A is a gray market site that lets you purchase unused keys for console and PC games. you may see advertisements and links to on gaming sites as well as on many twitch account pages advertising deals. Recently they have lost sponsorship with the over 27 million large Leauge of Legends by Riot Games.

The reason Riot took to banning G2A is likely very specific according to Kitguru. They basically are trying to stop sale of accounts that are selling League of Legends accounts that have been pre leveled and even ranked up. Instant platinum anyone?  This gives you a huge lead and saves you hours of gameplay. It is very similar to farming in MMORPGs where people farm for gold or sell high leveled accounts. Not only does it create sweatshop like gaming, it hurts the community. No one wants to see someone who hasn’t played a practice match trying to compete in a gold match.

The website G2A is no stranger to controversies as many accounts have been banned by being from stolen credit cards, revoked games, banned from games, and more. Causing the people the use it to be irate thinking they were getting a good deal. The old saying definitely has a place in G2A you do not know where the code came from, if it will work, and if it’s that cheap it probably is too good to be true. So you’d think a site like this would be underground or something that only a few people are dumb enough to use this is not true according to kitguru.

“G2A has advertised with plenty of big Twitch streamers and professional eSports players, including League of Legends teams including Cloud 9, H2K and Counter Logic Gaming” From Kitguru.

G2A is that big that all your pros, favorite twitchers, and more are blazoning for this gray market company. Which is very understandable as the life of an MLG or professional gamer is very short lived. They would take whatever they can get. However they may want to rethink this strategy in the future. Not only that, Riot Games themselves claim to have worked for a long time trying to resolve issues with  G2A, but could not. So clearly Riot Games also takes G2A’s dominance in the industry very seriously.

According to G2A they claim that this is a “aggressive attack ” and meant to “control the industry” says kitguru. G2A also believes that this is bad for e-Sports in general. Whether they are making outlandish claims or whether in the next few years G2A will still be around with all the questionable ways they operate is hard to say at this time.
