No Man’s Sky’s unexpected recovery from its disastrous launch and industry-defying success story following years of consistent content updates continues today with the launch of the Remnant update. From the large-scale fully customizable corvette ships added last year, to the massive expansion and Subnautica-level revamp of the game’s oceans, to massive freighters, pirate raids, outposts, base building, and even more, developer Hello Games has added a staggering amount to No Man’s Sky, and ten years after the game’s release, they’re not slowing down. The update is considered by the devs to be one of their larger ones, like Voyagers, and it introduces a whole new gameplay loop akin to the blue-collar simulators Hardspace Shipbreaker, Snowrunner, and American Truck Simulator.
Remnant centers on launching tires-on-the-ground salvage operations using new hauler vehicles to transport aged technological bits and bobs to scrapyards for various rewards. And to help facilitate this, not only have they added new customizable trucks; straight out of Half-Life, Hello Games added a gravity gun. After attaching the Gravitino Coil module to your multitool, you’ll be able to throw around whatever you want–whether that be for work, hijinks, or self-defense. Those pesky flying sentinel drones? Grab em’ and chuck them into orbit or the nearest wall. Additionally, there’s a brand new limited time expedition that boasts steampunk cosmetic rewards for your character along with new vehicle parts. Similar to the part system of the game’s modular corvettes, players can take the parts they earn either in the expedition or during normal play and mix and match them onto a colossus exocraft. Flatbeds for carrying scrap, spider legs and treads for nifty tire alternatives, mobile processing units, you name it, it’s probably something you can swap out on your ride.
2025 was a great year for No Man’s Sky; considering it won both the Game Awards category for “Best Ongoing” title and accrued the largest playerbase since its launch, according to the developers. Hello Games could go two for two in 2026, and though that remains to be seen, Remnant marks the first major update of the year, and it looks to be great start to the year for the game.
