Frozenbyte Announces Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince

The first time the Trine series showed up, it was innovative using 2.5D scrolling puzzle and unique in its 3-character based puzzles. Each of these characters, Pontius the Knight, Zoya the Thief, and Amadeus the Wizard, have their own unique set of skills and personas that all lend a helping hand to solve puzzles, and inevitably complete their quest. The trilogy can be played both solo and co-op (online and local) and was quick to win the hearts over many. But the last entry came in 2015, when Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power was released. After the trio’s most recent adventure, there have been questions as to when the next adventure would be. And Frozenbyte did not disappoint:

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince continues the quest of the trio as they embark on a journey to bring back Prince Selius from the Astral Academy. Now Prince Selius is not a new character, having first shown up in another Frozenbyte work titled Nine Parchments, where he was a named character. Prince Selius suffers from nightmares that have begun to manifest themselves into the real world. It’s up to Zoya, Amadeu and Pontius to take down these nightmarish shadows before they take over their known world. However, the trio of heroes come with a brand new revamped combat system to take them down.

Aside from new combat, for the first time in Trine history the game can be played up to 4 person co-op. Normally only allowed for 3 people at a time, due to the trio of characters, adding a fourth person means there will be a duplicate of one of the three main playable heroes. Though the physic puzzles will still be challenge and mind-boggling as the previous Trine’s have shown they can be, having an extra person might prove to be useful in certain situations.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is set to come out sometime in Autumn of 2019, and is currently available for pre-purchase. Coming out at the same time will also be a deluxe edition of all four Trine games put into a collection that is also available for pre-purchase. Both Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince and Trine: Ultimate Collection will be exclusive for PS4 only.
