Frosthaven 1.0, the Video Game Adaptation of the Popular Board Game, Will Release October 15th

Video games in the strategy genre have a lot in common with board games. This makes the transition from board games into faithful video game adaptations fairly intuitive for fans of the original. Such is the case with Frosthaven, a video game version of the beloved board game by the same name. The title has been receiving updates for a year now in early access, with the developers recently coming out on the official YouTube channel to announce the game’s 1.0 release date.

Being a sequel to the equally beloved Gloomhaven, both the board game and video game versions of Frosthaven will allow players to control fantasy characters in turn-based tactical battles in dungeons against monsters. According to the Steam page, the parties can be made up of up to four characters in total, with options for single player and co-op gameplay at varying difficulty levels. Each character has unique cards that can be used to deal damage, move around, heal wounds, or perform a variety of abilities that tie into the mechanics of each specific character

In the new trailer, the developers share the many updates that will be coming with the 1.0 release of Frosthaven. The new version will come with a unique prologue campaign that allows players to play through the journey to Frosthaven. It will also feature class guides and tutorials to help new players get accustomed to the game. Finally, a long list of quality-of-life features that the community requested during the early access period will be added, such as reducing information clutter and allowing for greater choice during combat.

Given the upkeep and space required to play long-term board games, video game adaptations that stay true to the original are often more accessible to those interested. With Frosthaven’s official release coming in a few months, players curious about the game will have the chance to experience it soon. The game is set to release on PC on October 15th, 2026.
