New Cozy Indie Game Momento Released on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation

As featured in the Wholesome Direct Showcase early last month, Momento is a cozy game where players are given the opportunity to decorate their room however they would like. This game does come with a twist, however, as chosen objects “will alter the course of the story.” The teams behind Fat Alien Cat and Nomo Studio announced Momento this past spring on March 17, and released it on June 30, 2026.

While the player must sort and choose items they value the most, it is only disclosed through the course of the game how these decisions affect the player “over the course of an lifetime” in game. This means that a decision the player makes early on could impact an event that occurs closer to the end. The timeline begins in childhood, and continues deep into adulthood.

In childhood, players begin by selecting toys that best represent their “dreams for the future.” The Steam launch trailer demonstrates the beginning choice between a plush dinosaur, unicorn, or teddy bear. As time goes on, these choices become more involved. The PlayStation launch trailer teases choices between several robotic animals, a small Ukelele, a lava lamp, a phonograph system paired with headphones, and various decorative posters.

Eventually, as the game progresses, players must “follow those dreams into adulthood, exploring wildly different settings and themes.” These themes are inspired by many common events for young adults as they “explore stories of heartbreak,” such as learning to remember feelings of “wonder and love.” This is when players begin to understand the “significance behind the sentimental treasures that follow” them.

One of Memento’s core mechanics is choosing between decor, something that allows them to progress throughout the story. Players cannot keep all their decorations, and must choose what means the most to them without knowing the sentimental significance until later in adulthood. At the end of the game, players are encouraged to continue the game loop back to the beginning, where they will repeat the game with different decisions. It is currently available on Steam for both Windows and MaciOS users, Xbox X and S, and PlayStation 5. The release trailer can be viewed below from the official PlayStation YouTube channel.
