It was announced that 1997 tactical roleplay game Front Mission 2 will be given a remake for the Nintendo Switch. It was first developed by G-Craft and published back then by Square (now Square-Enix) and released for the PlayStation 1. However, the original release of the game never received a western release due to its in-game content being perceived as socially awkward. Despite it only having a Japanese release, the game sold over 490,000 copies in the first week. This made it the 18th best-selling game and earned the “Gold Prize” from Sony the following year. 26 years later, it was announced that the game will have its western release for the Nintendo Switch. The remake is being developed by Storm Trident and published by Forever Entertainment.
The game takes place after the events of Front Mission 1, taking players to Bangladesh in the year of 2102. It has become a member of the OCU, Oceanic Cooperative Union which lead to rapid industrialization of developing countries. The story revolves around the characters, Corporal Ash Faruk, Captain Thomas Norland, and intelligence officer Lisa Stanley. As the game progresses, the game will change perspective from these characters. Armed Forces from the Alordeshi overthrows the pro-OCU government and declares independence. Attempting to flee from the Alordesh forces, Ash finds out there’s more to this revolution.
The remake will have support in new languages. It will have a free camera option to zoom in during gameplay. The game will also have new coloring and camouflage options with modern in-game effects as well as the soundtrack being redone. Front Mission 2: Remake will be available on the Nintendo Switch on June 12.
