Back in November, Gun Media reached their funding goals for Friday the 13th: The Game. At the game’s panel at PAX East, new trailers were released for the game, including a new map and Jason kill.
The “Hide and Seek!” trailer gives us an idea of how the games stealth mechanics work. It was stated on the game’s website that player’s could hide from Jason. If you have a good enough hiding spot, unlike the girl in the trailer, you could actually avoid being seen by Jason. Since one player controls Jason, it’s really depends on each player’s skill level on who kills and who survives.
The other trailer shows us a new map based on the Higgins Haven property from Friday the 13th Part III and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, which was the fourth of eleven movies. The trailer also shows Jason’s brutal door kill, where he slams the player’s face against a door until it explodes. Before we’ve only seen test footage of Jason’s kills (see below), but now we can see how Gun Studio captured the brutality of the Friday the 13th franchise.
Friday the 13th: The Game is a multiplayer focused survival horror game, with one player as Jason and the other player’s controlling camp counselors. The game started out as Slasher Vol 1: Summer Camp before the holder’s of the Friday the 13th license let Gun studios to make it based on the franchise. During the game’s PAX panel, it was clarified that Freddy Krueger will not appear in the game as the creator’s don’t have permission to use his license.
Friday the 13th: The Game is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Steam in October 2016. If the game is a success, perhaps we can get some more games based on classic horror icons. I’m sure Gun Studio will do a good job, especially considering that there is only one other Friday the 13th Game to compare it too. I’m still waiting for horror all-stars cross-over fighting game, I mean four of the biggest characters in horror have already been in Mortal Kombat so why not they’re own game?
