FPS Bulletstorm Receives VR Port

The 2011 co-op FPS Bulletstorm will be making its VR debut, announced earlier today during the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase. Originally developed by People Can Fly for the PlayStation 3, the VR port is being developed by Incuvo who previously worked on Green Hell VR. Bulletstorm previously received a 2017 remastered port, Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition for multiple consoles.

Bulletstorm stands out from other FPS with its unique “Skillshot” system, where players can masterfully execute their kills with style to ascertain more points, such as kicking an enemy into a wall or taking off an enemy’s limb one by one. The game intended on being more an arcade shooter as opposed to a serious FPS to the likes of Call of Duty or Halo.

Story-wise, Bulletstorm has players step into the boots of protagonist Grayson Hunt, set on the planet of Stygia to face numerous enemies to shoot through. While notably short of a story, running in at about 5 hours of gameplay, players are encouraged for replayability to seek different skillshots or attempt time trial modes.

The VR version is said to be remade entirely from the ground up to fit the VR functionality better. In today’s announcement, Incuvo said they’ll have more videos and information to share about the VR title later this year. Incuvo CEO Andrzej Wychowaniec said of developing Bulletstorm VR, “As a studio that specializes in VR gaming, Bulletstorm VR is a dream project for us. Gunplay is a natural fit for VR and Bulletstorm has that in spades, yet it also has a cool-as-hell electric leash, which is just a joy to use with motion controls in VR. Add in endearing characters and an extravagant, colorful world, and Bulletstorm VR is the full package!”

There’s no information yet on when it’ll release, the trailer only indicated a 2023 release window. As for platforms it’ll launch on Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3, and PlayStation VR2.
