Fortnite’s Android Version Now Available For Everyone

The biggest game in the world is about to get even bigger. Earlier this year, we reported that Epic Games would be bringing the massively popular Fortnite to iOS and Android mobile devices as an early invite only version of the game. iOS users didn’t have to wait long for the game or for it to leave the invite only period. Android users, on the other hand, had to wait until August 9 for the invite only launch version of the game. Then, yesterday, Epic Games announced that the Android version of the game would be leaving its invite only period via the game’s official Twitter.

Players will be able to download the game via the game’s official website on compatible mobile devices or by scanning a QR code on the desktop version of the site. Users will need to download the APK file and edit security settings for the file before downloading the game itself. Note that the game will not be available through Android’s official Google Play Store. Fortnite is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, game to forego the Google Play Store. In a Q&A session with Eurogamer, Epic Games’ CEO Tim Sweeney stated the reason behind this was to avoid the 30 percent cut Google takes from the game’s revenue because “it’s disproportionate to the cost of the services these stores perform.”

However, even with the extra steps users have to take to download the game, in a post on the official Fortnite blog, over 15 million players had downloaded the game during the first 21 days of the initial invite only launch period. With stats and success like this, we can only expect the player count to continue to grow now that the game is available to everyone.
