Fortnite has seen some serious competition over the past few months with the rise of Warzone. What Fortnite has always done in order to make itself as successful as it has been however is adapt. From the beginning, Epic embraced the cartoony nature of the game and has since added all sorts of weird quirks and inside jokes that give the game character. So when a large chunk of players who are more focused on the serious gunfighting element of the game left for Call of Duty, Epic adapted again. Fortnite has hosted a few concerts in the past, and the lockdown has provided a perfect opportunity to expand this, which led to the creation of the non-violent “Party Royale” mode.
Creativity like this works, and Epic also revealed last week that they have surpassed 350 million registered users, and just this April players spent a collective 3.2 billion hours in the game.
For a game this successful, which isn’t really tied to a series or expecting the release of a sequel, it makes total sense that Fortnite will port over to Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X as soon as possible. According to a post on Epic’s website, this will be the case, and Fortnite will be available at launch on both next-gen consoles.
Today we’re excited to confirm that Fortnite will be headed to next-generation consoles at launch. This is the same Fortnite you know and love, ready to take full advantage of the newest consoles. We’ll be sharing more specific details in the coming months as we get closer to launch.
They confirm that all of your achievements, skins, records, wins, and so on will transfer along with your game as all of this is tied to your Epic account. Also, cross-play should be available across all consoles, both current and next-gen.
They don’t go into detail about how the game will be optimized for the new consoles, just that it should run smoother and look better. They also add that the game is currently running on Unreal Engine 4, and will at launch of next-gen as well, but that they plan on migrating the game to Unreal Engine 5 (which had a stunning demo today) at some point in mid-2021.
