Fortnite Tweaking and Bringing Back Glider Redeploy

The upcoming patch for Fortnite, version 7.20, is getting several previews of what players can expect to see when it goes live. This week, Epic Games has revealed that the glider redeploy feature will be returning to the game after some tweaking to help balance it by ‘itemizing’ the feature.

Glider redeploy was a feature added in August during the Soaring 50s limited time game mode. It later got added to the main gameplay modes for a couple weeks to test how well it worked in those modes. It wound up being one of the most controversial and dividing features to be added in Fortnite. After the testing period, Epic Games decided to remove the feature from the main gameplay modes.

In a new post on the Fortnite website, Epic Games has announced that glider redeploy will be coming back for Round 2. The plan for this iteration of the feature will to make it an item players can collect during gameplay. The basic overview of how this will work is that gliders will be collectible as an item found in chests, vending machines, llamas, or floor spawns, just like any other item in the game. Every glider will have a certain number of charges that be spent in order to redeploy your glider. If a player enters skydiving mode from doing something like using a launch pad or rift, then the glider won’t use a charge.

Epic’s overall idea for this rebalance is to make glider redeploy an item that takes up precious inventory space and has limited uses. Turning glider redeploy into a limited resource should help alleviate some of the complaints the feature received during its test period last year. However, we’ll have to wait for version 7.20 to release later this week to see just how players will react to it.
