Quarantine has created a lot of downtime, with one of the most popular at-home activities being videogames. For a title like Fortnite, this has lead to huge numbers and has helped them set yet another record. Epic Games reveals they’ve achieved over 350 million registered players on Fornite across all platforms.
Not only that, but a collective 3.2 billion hours of the game was also played in the month of April alone. Fortnite was already the most popular battle royal title on the market, and the numbers just keep adding up. To commemorate the new feats, Fortnite is hosting an event called Party Royale Premiere. The celebration will be held in-game on Friday, May 8th, at 9 pm ET and rebroadcasted on the Main Stage at 2 pm ET the following day. The party will feature music acts like Dillon Francis, Steve Aoki, and Deadmau5.
Fortnite has hosted similar events in the past, like Travis Scott’s Astronomical concert series. The event featured 5 virtual shows over 5 days and was super successful for the game. The concert attracted more than 27.7 million unique players, who interacted 45.8 million times across all five shows. The in-game event strategy has been a home run for Epic and has definitely received a positive response from players. Doing these kinds of numbers is sure to get the attention of other industries looking to capitalize on the digital space the way the music business has.
Those who log onto Fortnite between May 8 at 6 pm ET and Monday, May 11 at 10 am ET will receive a free pair of new music-reactive Neon Wings Back Bling, which is promoted as “perfect for wearing at the show.”
