Fortnite is getting into the Halloween spirit with a special event starting up alongside its 6.2.0 update. The aptly named ‘Fortnitemares’ event introduces strange new monsters, a variety of new weapons and costumes, and glider redeployment.
One of the features of this Halloween event are strange creatures generated by The Cube, which played a big part in the current season. Small Cube Fragments spawn randomly matches, Large Cube Fragments appear in corrupted areas, and The Cube itself spawns Cube Fiends and Cube Brutes. Killing these creatures gives the player special loot.
To help players fight against the monsters, a variety of new weapons have been added. The Fiend Hunter Crossbow is an Epic weapon exclusive to the Fortnitemares Limited Time Mode (LTM) which does four times as much damage against the Cube Fiends. Meanwhile, all Battle Royale modes now good ol’ fashioned Six Shooters, which have Uncommon, Rare, and Epic variants.
On the cosmetics front, one of the more notable outfits is the Deadfire Outfit, seen in the middle of the video thumbnail above. It’s a new reactive outfit that measures your in-match progression, letting players show off their skills in a stylish fashion. As players deal more damage and last longer in the match, the outfit will progress from a classic cowboy outfit into the spookier variant with a variety of purples and eerie green flames.
Also of note is that Epic Games is adding the glider redeployment feature from Soaring 50’s into all game modes. Gliders are normally only seen when players drop into the map, but now players can bring out their gliders again when they’re at least three stories high. “We’re testing how providing a singular mobility mechanic that all players can use will affect regular gameplay,” says the post. “We’re planning to run this for a week. Drop in, try it out, let us know what you think!”
