Fortnite for Nintendo Switch Reaches Over 2 Million Downloads & Causes Backlash Towards Sony

For many, it took a tweet from Chance the Rapper to realize Epic Games’ mega-popular free-to-play battle royale Fortnite would be great fit for the Nintendo Switch. Then at the end of May, a leaked image started floating around showing the game as part of a list of titles with the Nintendo Switch logo that would potentially be announced at E3. Turns out it was all true.

Many players like myself were excited to be able to play Fortnite on the go. Personally, I found the change-up from keyboard and mouse controls to the use of joy-con a bit jarring. Perhaps an Xbox or PlayStation 4 controller work better but I can’t help but feel that the precision of analog sticks and a mouse will forever be at different levels. Nevertheless, practice should make perfect as the game is absolutely fun and playing in bed just can’t be beat. After 1 day, the Switch port hit an incredible yet foreseeable milestone.

Though many were having fun with the latest iteration of Fortnite, some ran into a peculiar login issue that had to do with anyone who played Fortnite on PlayStation 4..

As mxdwn has previously reported, crossplay between Microsoft and Sony’s consoles has been a bit of an awkward problem. Last year, glitch within the game showed that crossplay was an essentially easy task. Epic Games has stated that it will eventually be necessary for the politics behind crossplay between the two platforms to be settled. Could this be the final straw? Unfortunately, Sony has yet to comment and popular gaming figureheads such as Greg Miller have weighed in on the matter:

As mentioned earlier, Fortnite for Nintendo Switch is a free download available on the Nintendo e-shop now. Also, as of today, voice chat will be available through use of the headphone jack, a happy change from Nintendo’s previous voice chat functionality.
