Fortnite Becomes Most Watched Game On Twitch

Fortnite, Epic Games online multiplayer shooter, has reached a new milestone in its rise to popularity: the most watched game on Twitch.

Viewership had been steadily climbing since late last year, but has skyrocketed in recent weeks. It currently has more viewers and channels steaming than League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and Overwatch. That’s some heavy competition.

Shown below are the stats for the last 7 days on twitch. In that time players have watched 2,737 years worth of Fortnite matches. They have a significant lead on even their closest competition. The same holds true over a 14 day period as well. Check it out:

Interestingly, many of the games have a better ratio of channels to viewers, meaning more people are watching a smaller selection of channels. Fortnite seems to be winning by sheer mass alone, with a staggering number of channels streaming it at any given time.

It’s likely the quirky animation style and quick matches have given it a leg up on more serious competitive games like League and CS:GO. But what’s perhaps the most interesting is their leg up on PUBG, the Battle Royale champion of last year. This comes on the heels of Fortnite also surpassing 3 million concurrent players, which PUBG just did late last year.

All these numbers are coming from SullyGnome, a stat tracker for Twitch viewership and channels. If you’re interested in that sort of thing, it’s definitely worth taking some time to click through the various tabs and statistics on display on the site.

With its Battle Royale mode propelling it to insane levels of popularity, Fortnite shows no sign of slowing down now. We certainly can’t wait to see what Epic Games has in store for everyone next.
