Former PlayStation Head of Global Second Party Games Gio Corsi announced April 12 that he has accepted a position at Nintendo to help build the company’s third-party portfolio.
As reported by Game Rant, Corsi worked in an upper-level position at PlayStation from 2013 to 2019. He served as the Senior Director for third-party game production for six years before switching to the Head of Global Second Party Games in his final year.
Among his most significant contributions to the gaming giant was his “Building the List” initiative, which had players submit games that they would like to see come to PlayStation platforms and was responsible for bringing Yakuza 5 to the West.
Since 2019, Corsi has acted as IllFonic’s Head of Publishing and Business Development and Iron Galaxy Studios’ Head of Commercial. Now, he has taken a position with Nintendo in Third Party AAA Portfolio Management.
“This week I began my new gig filled with fun & adventure!” Corsi wrote in a Twitter post announcing the new position. “I’ve joined the @NintendoAmerica AAA 3rd Part Portfolio Mgmt crew to help great teams bring their amazing games to this legendary platform!”
From the sound of it, Corsi will be focusing on bringing a wider variety of third-party games to Nintendo platforms, similarly to what he did in his first position at PlayStation.
With rumors of a Nintendo Switch successor releasing within the next year, it is possible that this hire is part of an effort to round out the lineup for that console, though Nintendo has made no official announcement or confirmation that the system is coming anytime soon.
