Former Lead Writer for Telltale Joins Insomniac Games

The chronicles of Telltale Games may have come to a sad close, but things are looking up for those impacted most by the dire situation. As Telltale Games employees seek refuge with other studios that have since opened their doors, one particularly integral member of the now defunct company has found a new home in a very promising place. Mary Kenney, the former lead writer at Telltale, has announced via Twitter that she will be joining Insomniac Games in the New Year.

According to her website, Kenney has worked on some of Telltale’s most recent titles, including the controversial The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Her other project at the former studio includes the well-received and critically praised Batman: The Enemy Within. Given the strong writing in both of these titles, it would seem as if Insomniac Games has picked up valuable talent.

Insomniac Games is riding a highly successful 2018 into the new year. After the smashing accomplishments of Marvel’s Spider Man, whatever project the studio turns to next will most likely be very different, as the eccentric developers have always liked playing around with wildly different genres. If anything, the hiring of talented lead writer may very well point to a more narrative-driven title, perhaps an adventure game in-line with the ones found at Telltales. Though going by Insomniac’s past record, it will still most likely be an immersive single-player project with high levels of polish. There’s no way to know until early 2019, as Insomniac Games has closed its offices for the holidays.

The video game industry has gone through some volatile changes recently, from several major studio closing down to others facing high-profile and contentious investigations. In light of these dark times, it’s reassuring that the holiday season can start off positively, with a well-deserved creative talent having found promising work in a company that has a bright future ahead.
