May the Fourth be with you! In honor of Star Wars Day, Ubisoft Montreal has added surprise (and unofficial) lightsaber effects to the various weapons in its medieval fighter For Honor. Players logging in today will discover that their blades now glow with the unmistakable power of the Force, even if they aren’t literally lightsabers. Swinging weapons also creates the iconic “hwmmm” and “khissssh” sounds the Jedi and Sith weapons make in the movies.
For Honor players are liking the new addition so much that they’re asking to keep the lightsabers around full time and showing their appreciation with memes and videos on the For Honor subreddit and on the game’s Steam discussions page.
This neat feature for the “holiday” seems to have been quietly added in the Year 3 Season 2 update and comes after another funny surprise event for For Honor. On April 1st, the game was invaded by Rabbids to commemorate April Fools as part of the Year of The Harbinger update.

It’s not clear how long the special lightsaber effects will last for players of For Honor. It might last the entire weekend, or just the 4th itself. It does seem less than likely that Ubisoft will make the effect permanent, but it is certainly a fun way to give a legal nod to some of the most beloved weapons in sci-fi history.
For fans looking for permanent, official, and licensed Star Wars game news, upcoming Star Wars title Jedi: The Fallen Order showed off the first official trailer at the Star Wars Celebration on April 13th. Disney and Lucasfilm will be working closely with EA to develop a single-player experience focused on Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who survived Order 66. Though no gameplay footage has been shown off yet, there’s no way the game won’t feature all kinds of completely official lightsabers for followers of the Force to swoon over.
For Honor is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
