Out this upcoming month, on April 8th, First Person Shooter film Hardcore Henry hits theaters nationwide. The indie film made its first appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September of 2015, and caused a lot of excitment. The premiere opened a bidding war over the film’s rights, with SFX Entertainment ultimately coming out the victor. It also recieved a positive response from SXSW this year, and holds a 94% currently on Rotten Tomatoes.
…the audience sees everything through the eyes of Henry, a man resurrected from the brink of death as a cybernetic super-soldier who remembers nothing about his past. He is trying to save his wife Estelle, who has been kidnapped by Akan, a powerful warlord with a plan for bioengineering soldiers…
The Russian-American movie is also entirely unique because it was entirely filmed on the GoPro Hero 3 camera, the visual effect of which can be witnessed in the trailer below. (Spoiler: it works really well and looks super badass…sorry).
Russian director Ilya Naishuller used a rig with the GoPro attached to the front, worn like a mask…
The action-packed, FPS ingredients present in Hardcore Henry certainly make it the perfect candidate for a video game. And while the film itself serves already as a similarly immersive experience and will not be receiving its own standalone title, fans will still be able to enjoy a video game interaction with the killer Hardcore Henry signature to it with DLC for Payday 2.
Filmmakers have partnered up with game developers at Starbreeze to make this possible cross-promotion available for play on March 31st. Payday 2, for those unfamiliar, is an all action oriented cop-and-robbers type game heavy on heists and shooting gameplay. The DLC will feature new player skin, as well as 2 entirely new heists two new heists “inspired by the film, Hardcore: The Boiling Point Heist and Hardcore: The Murky Station Heist…”
The download will be free for players who also own Payday 2, which is playable on PC, Linux, Playstation 4, PS3, Xbox One/360, and sold well on digital storefronts back in 2013. It can be downloaded tomorrow!
Hardcore Henry can be viewed in theaters as early as the evening of April 7th, with a US release date of April 8th.
