First Minecraft Dungeons DLC: Jungle Awakens, Will Release In July

Minecraft Dungeons hasn’t been out that long, but unlike Minecraft itself, the possibilities in its world aren’t quite as limitless. Dungeons so far isn’t a game that most people will be pouring hundreds of thousands of hours into, so its good to hear that some DLC is on the way. Players knew that there would be some DLC since there are multiple tiers of the game available for purchase, but now we know what they are called, and a bit more about the first one at least.

On a recent Mojang Blog post, the first DLC was revealed to be called Jungle Awakens, and it will release sometime in July.  According to the post, it seems that the DLC will open an entirely new area:

In this adventure, you’ll enter a distant, dangerous jungle to fight a mysterious power in three new missions. To defeat the terrors hidden among the vines, you’ll have new weapons, armor, and artifacts at your disposal.

It also mentions that there will be new mobs like the Leapleaf, Jungle Zombie, and Poison Quill Vine.  It is definitely interesting to see Dungeons delve deeper into mobs that do not originate from Minecraft itself.  The DLC will include 3 new missions set in this jungle, and will likely tie into the overarching motivation of the base game.

Mojang also announced that the second DLC coming out later this year will be called Creeping Winter and that it will allow players to “explore some frozen peaks.” It seems likely that this second DLC will release this winter.

The blog post also revealed that they are working on cross-platform play, as well as some new free content that everyone will receive, regardless of edition or platform. Cross-play would be huge for Mojang, especially considering the fragmented nature of Minecraft variations.

Minecraft Dungeons is available now on Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
