Sega has recently given us a small teaser for the training stage of the upcoming Virtua Fighter 6.
Do you hear that? Do you see that? No big explosions, no massive screen filling projectiles, no overbearing hit sparks, just flesh on flesh. There’s a section of fighting game players who prefer the flashier stuff, but there’s definitely a section of players who want to have a more grounded martial arts based 3D fighting game featuring martial artists and not aliens and robots (Virtua Fighter, funnily enough, does have a robot though) and from this short gameplay preview it looks like Virtua Fighter 6 is definitely catering towards the latter half of fighting game fans.
This short preview features Virtua Fighter main character Akira against series fan favorite Sarah Bryant. There’s very VERY little in the way of visual clutter, to the point where they’ve even stripped away the UI just to show how clean the game looks. Indeed, the only real explosive scene in this small gameplay demonstration is the KO animation, which is a unique animation where we see Akira’s tooth get knocked out by one of Sarah’s kicks. We don’t know if EVERY knockout will feature something like that, a close up cutscene showing just how badly you got your ass kick. Like if, for example, you get your toe stepped on, but even if it’s just for knockouts involving the face that’s a pretty dynamic way to end a round.
But this is all from just a minute long clip. If you want to see a more detailed breakdown of Virtua Fighter 6’s gameplay and its training mode, be sure to tune in to the Tokyo Game Show this year, from September 25th to September 28th where Virtua Fighter 6 will feature very heavily. Virtual Fighter 6 itself has no set release date, but we’re sure to hear news of that soon.
