The series will have 13 episodes and Shenmue’s creator, Yu Suzuki, will be overlooking the project as Executive Producer. Crunchyroll posted on their website today a synopsis for the story along with new visual art. “Based on the SEGA game franchise, SHENMUE follows the journey of Ryo Hazuki. After he witnesses his father’s murder at the family dojo, Ryo dedicates his life to finding the man responsible—a mission that takes him from the streets of Yokosuka, Japan to the sprawling metropolis of Hong Kong, and beyond. Soon he will learn that larger, mystical forces are at play as he trains to become the ultimate martial artist in his quest for revenge.”
Shenmue is a cult-classic action-adventure series created by Yu Suzuki. The first two games in the series were developed by Sega and the third game was released for Playstation 4 and PC in 2019 through a Kickstarter campaign. The campaign was launched during Sony Playstation’s E3 Conference in 2015 and went on to raise over $6 million. Shenmue I and II were re-released in 2018 for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. Through all three games, the player controls Ryo Hazuki. Players encounter brawl battles, quick-time events and life simulation interactions. Ryo can interact with vending machines, arcades and can play minigames in his 3D environment based on a day and night system.
